Volkswagen’s New Three-Row SUV “Tayron” to Make Global Debut, Including India

-

Volkswagen is set to introduce a new three-row SUV, named the Tayron, which will be positioned alongside the Skoda Kodiaq globally. The Tayron is expected to be a sibling to the seven-seat Tiguan AllSpace but will offer unique styling and features to differentiate it from the five-seater Tiguan. The Tayron will be based on the MQB-A2 platform, which it will share with the next-gen Kodiaq, and will be manufactured in Germany for global markets, including India.

Potential Launch:

The Tayron will be larger than the China-spec model of the same name, allowing for an additional row of seats, and will be exported from Germany to various markets worldwide. It is expected to enter production in 2024 and could potentially be launched in India by early 2025 as it will be assembled from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits in limited numbers. This strategy is not new for Volkswagen India, as they have previously relied on limited CBU (Completely Built-Up) or CKD models to maintain the brand’s presence in the market while focusing on new mass-market products.

One of the key highlights of the Tayron is its unique styling, which will set it apart from the current Tiguan and its seven-seater derivative. Volkswagen has aimed to create a distinct visual identity for the Tayron, positioning it between the Tiguan and the Touareg SUVs in Europe. This differentiation in styling will give the Tayron a fresh and modern appeal, making it an attractive option for SUV buyers looking for a unique and versatile three-row SUV.

All-electric ID4 Launch Plans for India:

In addition to the Tayron, Volkswagen’s plans for India also include the launch of the all-electric ID4, which has been spotted testing on Indian roads and is expected to be available for sale later this year or in early 2024. Furthermore, there are speculations about the limited import of the fifth-gen Polo GTI to cater to enthusiasts in the Indian market, as hinted by Volkswagen’s Brand Director, Ashish Gupta.

Volkswagen’s upcoming Tayron SUV is poised to be a global offering that will bring fresh and unique styling to the three-row SUV segment. With its positioning alongside the Skoda Kodiaq and plans for limited CKD assembly in India, the Tayron is expected to make an impact in the SUV market. Stay tuned for more such news and updates.
