The MG Comet EV Unveiled – A Compact Electric Car Set to Make Waves in India’s EV Market

-

MG Motors has unveiled its latest offering in the Indian electric car market – the MG Comet EV. With series production already underway at MG’s Halol facility in Gujarat, the Comet EV is set to make a splash with its compact size, distinctive design, and efficient performance.

The MG Comet EV’s Design:

Measuring less than 3 meters in length, the MG Comet EV takes the concept of compact cars to the next level. Its tallboy shape allows for ample cabin space within its 2-door footprint, while its quirky details make it stand out in the crowd. LED strips adorn the front and rear, giving it a futuristic look, and the large quarter glass panels and tiny wheels add to its boxy and unique appearance. MG will offer the Comet EV in five exterior paint shades, including Candy White, Apple Green with black roof, Candy White with black roof, Aurora Silver, and Starry Black, providing options for personalization and customization.

Battery and Range of the MG Comet EV:

The MG Comet EV is expected to come with a 17.3kWh battery pack, powering a rear-axle-mounted electric motor with 42PS (30kW) of power and 110Nm of torque. The leaked information suggests a claimed range of up to 230km, making it suitable for urban and city commuting. Charging options include a 3.3kW AC charger that can charge the battery from 0 to 100% in 7 hours, or 0 to 80% in 5 hours, providing convenient charging solutions for everyday use. While the Comet EV does not offer a larger battery pack option available with its Wuling sibling for increased range, this decision is likely aimed at keeping the prices competitive and affordable for Indian customers.

Expected Launch and Pricing of the MG Comet EV:

MG is expected to launch the Comet EV in India soon, and the estimated starting price is around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). This competitive pricing will position the Comet EV in the affordable electric car segment, where it will compete with other compact EVs like the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. MG’s reputation for offering feature-rich vehicles with advanced technology and connected car features is also expected to be reflected in the Comet EV, with dual 10.25-inch screens, connected car tech, LED headlights with DRLs, and safety features such as dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control likely to be on offer.

With series production underway and expected competitive pricing, the Comet EV could be an attractive option for customers looking for an affordable and quirky electric car for their urban commuting needs.
