Realme 10 Pro Plus Review – Should you buy this or not?

-

The Realme 10 Pro Plus is a new addition to the company’s 10 series lineup. It boasts a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, which provides powerful performance and is paired with up to 12GB of RAM.

The device also features a large 5000mAh battery with 67W fast charging. Running on the latest Android 13 OS, the Realme 10 Pro Plus offers many features for its price. However, like any device, it is not without compromises. To determine whether or not the Realme 10 Pro Plus is worth its asking price, it is worth considering the various features and limitations of the phone.

Design & Display

The Realme 10 Pro+ boasts a sleek and modern design that is sure to turn heads. It features a glittering, glossy back in the Hyperspace color variant, which creates unique patterns when viewed from different angles. Despite its slim design, the phone is lightweight, weighing just 173g, and has a thickness of less than 7.8mm. This is thanks to its large 5,000mAh battery, which is housed inside the device. The volume rocker and power buttons are slim and follow the general look of the phone. The phone also has a USB Type-C port, speaker grille, and dual-SIM slot at the bottom.

The stereo sound setup is facilitated by the earpiece, and there is no distinct camera housing on the device. Instead, two massive rings protrude from the back, giving the impression of larger sensors. The Realme 10 Pro+ has a premium look and feel, making it a pleasure to use aesthetically.

Realme 10 Pro Plus ReviewThe front of the phone features a curved AMOLED panel, which is a first in this segment and adds to the phone’s premium look. The display has a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and is capable of HDR10+ certification, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 950 nits of peak brightness. This makes the display one of the strongest features of the Realme 10 Pro+. The company has included a few industry-first features, such as a 2160Hz PWM dimming mode and an X-touch Anti-mistouch Algorithm. The dimming mode provides accurate colors at lower brightness levels, making the phone easy to use at night without straining the eyes. The anti-mistouch algorithm reduces accidental touches on the curved screen, which are minimal during usage. Overall, the Realme 10 Pro+ has a top-notch display that is perfect for binge-watching and browsing.

Software & Processor

Realme 10 Pro Plus ReviewThe Realme 10 Pro Plus is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and features 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 internal storage. During my usage, I did not experience any lag or overheating issues. The virtual RAM (up to 8GB) works well with the physical RAM, providing smooth multitasking capabilities. The high refresh rate and decent performance capabilities make switching between apps a breeze.

In benchmark tests, the Realme 10 Pro Plus performed well with a score of 519,356 on Antutu and 839 in single-core and 2386 in multi-core tests on Geekbench. I even played NFS for an hour in ultra-game mode without encountering any heating issues. However, the performance did suffer when the settings were turned to high.

Realme 10 Pro Plus ReviewThe phone runs on Realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13 and is one of the first non-Google-made phones to come with Android 13 out-of-the-box. The software includes features such as an always-on display, themes, fingerprint scanner animations, dynamic widgets, and more. The Realme Lab section offers features such as Dual Mode audio, Sleep Capsule (night mode), and Heart Rate Measurement via the fingerprint sensor.

However, some bloatware is pre-installed on the phone, with several apps delivering unnecessary notifications. While intended to ensure the safety of installed apps, the Realme app market also displays ads and irrelevant app suggestions, which can be annoying.

In terms of fingerprint response, the scanner is highly responsive. The speakers on the device offer loud audio, but the lack of bass is noticeable. Removing the 3.5mm jack is also a drawback for audio enthusiasts.

Camera

The Realme 10 Pro+ 5G is a smartphone that boasts a triple-camera setup on the back. The main camera is a 108-megapixel Samsung HM6, the ultra-wide camera is an 8-megapixel lens, and the macro camera is a 2-megapixel sensor. The camera module design is reminiscent of some Honor phones in China.

The primary camera delivers detailed shots with good dynamic range, although there were instances where chromatic aberration was noticeable around the edges of branches and leaves. The camera performed well at night, balancing highlights and shadows and exposing photos well. However, the lack of optical image stabilization (OIS) compared to the Realme 9 Pro+ 5G’s primary camera is a drawback. Although electronic image stabilization (EIS) is present, it may not be as effective in low light or video capture.

Unfortunately, the ultra-wide camera produces overexposed shots day and night, with poor detail and heavily distorted edges. The macro camera, on the other hand, is best avoided as its results are underwhelming. It is better to use the main camera’s 108-megapixel mode and crop the resulting shot to get a better close-up.

The front-facing 16MP camera is a bit hit or miss in terms of capturing skin tones. It tends to smoothen skin too much even with beauty mode filters disabled. Portrait mode accurately detects edges in most cases, but can make skin look lighter.

Battery

Realme 10 Pro Plus ReviewThe Realme 10 Pro+ 5G comes with a 5000mAh battery with decent battery life and moderate usage. The device can last a full day easily when using apps like social media and browsing the web with Chrome. In terms of usage, the author got around six hours of battery life, including three hours of Netflix and an hour of PUBG: New State. The battery life can vary depending on the usage patterns, but it’s great to know that you can charge the phone quickly with the 67W charging facility. The phone can be charged from 0 to 100% in less than 45 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long to get back to using your phone. Overall, the battery life and charging capabilities of the Realme 10 Pro+ are a great feature for anyone who values battery life and quick charging times.

Verdict

The Realme 10 Pro+ is a standout smartphone in its price range of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. Its curved AMOLED screen sets it apart from the competition and provides a premium experience, giving more than one would expect at this price point. Realme 10 Pro Plus is a well-rounded smartphone based on its specifications and features. It boasts a curved display with a high refresh rate of 120Hz, making for a smooth and enjoyable user experience. The phone runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, ensuring it performs well in everyday tasks without lag. Additionally, the large battery and fast 67W charging capability allow users to return to using the phone quickly. All these upgrades make the Realme 10 Pro Plus a potential game-changer in the market, especially if it is launched at a competitive price point in India.
