Pixel Watch 2: Google’s Next-Gen Smartwatch to Debut with Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro

-

Pixel Watch 2: Google’s inaugural smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, made a splash in the market when it was launched in October last year. With its successful debut, it comes as no surprise that there are now rumors of a Pixel Watch 2 in development. Anticipation is building for the potential unveiling of the next-generation smartwatch alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at Google’s annual fall event, which generally takes place in October.

According to a 9to5Google report, the Pixel Watch 2 might not be the final name for the next-generation Pixel Watch. While this may seem like a quick turnaround for a second iteration, it is believed that the smartwatch has been in development for several years. The original Pixel Watch was announced at Google I/O 2022, but only made its debut in October, showcasing a more refined final product than the prototype leaked post-I/O.

Pixel Watch 2 Specification

The upcoming Pixel Watch 2 is poised to deliver numerous enhancements over its predecessor, with a primary focus on performance and memory management. The first-generation smartwatch employs a Samsung Exynos 9110 chipset, which also powers the 2018 Galaxy Watch. This processor’s use in a 2023 smartwatch underscores the necessity for an upgrade. The incorporation of the latest smartwatch chipset, the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, based on a 4nm process, would result in a substantial performance improvement for the Pixel Watch 2.

The new chip would also lead to improved efficiency and better battery life for the Pixel Watch 2. Although it’s unclear if Google plans to offer full-day power to users, the upcoming smartwatch will at least provide longer usage times. The Pixel Watch 2 might also feature the Material You interface over Wear OS and may support Android 13’s Dynamic Colour feature, as reported.

Google is poised to elevate the health and fitness capabilities of the Pixel Watch 2, with potential upgrades including more precise per-second heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen saturation measurement, and overnight skin temperature detection. It is speculated that the Pixel Watch 2 might integrate Fitbit Sense 2’s built-in skin temperature sensor and continuous Electrodermal Sensor (cEDA) for stress tracking. As a subsidiary of Google, Fitbit continues to make impressive strides in the realm of health tracking, with its most recent advancements focusing on simplifying stress management.

The Pixel Watch 2 is shaping up to be a major upgrade from its predecessor, with enhanced performance, memory management, and health tracking features. The smartwatch is rumored to be unveiled alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at Google’s fall event later this year, promising a new level of innovation and user experience in the smartwatch market.
