Next-generation Hyundai Verna 2023 teased with these engine options: Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus Rival

-

Hyundai has dropped the first teaser of the next-generation Hyundai Verna, which has recently lost sales to newer rivals Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus. Although the news of the next-gen Verna coming to India enthuses fans, what surprises us is that there would be no diesel engine option.

Hyundai Motor India today teased the new-gen Verna, showcasing its all-new front grille, a redesigned rear profile featuring an LED setup and new LED headlamps. It is expected to go head-on with the Slavia and Virtus – which don’t present a diesel option either.

The next-gen Verna is likely to go on sale soon with prices likely to start at above Rs 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is also expected to undercut both the Slavia and Virtus with its 1.5L NA engine. The top-of-the-line variant will be powered by a 1.5 GDI Turbo petrol engine. Going by the specifications, the latter could be a cracker of an engine challenging the 1.5 Turbo from the Germans. It could come in both manual and DCT Automatic Transmissions.

Positioning-wise, next-gen Verna’s Turbo version is expected to be positioned above the i20 N-line and Venue N-line variant. It remains to be seen whether the Verna will also get an N-line option to its credit.

The new-gen Verna has improved handling dynamics and looks inspired by hi-end Hyundai cars, taking design cues from the next-gen Creta and the Tucson. It will be interesting to see how the market receives this all-new sedan, as SUVs continue to take in the larger numbers. Nonetheless, it would be a great option for sedan fans not willing to experiment with German brands like VW or Skoda.
