Maruti Suzuki’s New Compact Crossover Fronx Can be a Game Changer in the Indian SUV Market

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automobile manufacturer, is set to introduce its newest compact crossover, the Fronx. With this latest addition to its SUV lineup, the company aims to become the leading Utility Vehicle (UV) player in India by the fiscal year 2024. Maruti Suzuki plans to double its SUV sales by bringing in two major products in this segment, including the Fronx and the Jimny 5-door. This article will provide a comprehensive overview of the Maruti Fronx, including its design highlights, dimensions and colors, standard features, and engine-gearbox options.

Design Highlights:

The Maruti Fronx is essentially a Baleno-based SUV coupe built on the Heartect monocoque platform. While some of its body panels are similar to its hatchback sibling, it has a split headlamp setup and an upright nose borrowed from the Grand Vitara. The model has sporty front and rear bumpers with faux skid plates and subtle use of chrome. The side profile features 17-inch alloy wheels and a roofline slipping towards the tailgate.

Dimensions and Colors

The Fronx’s overall length, width, and height are 3995mm, 1550mm, and 1765mm, respectively. The model comes in nine exterior color options, including Arctic White, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Nexa Blue, Earthen Brown, Splendid Silver with Black roof, Earthen Brown with Black roof, and Opulent Red with Black roof.

Standard Features

The entry-level Sigma variant of the Maruti Fronx offers features such as automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, dual-tone interior, fabric seat upholstery, powered windows, tilt adjustment for steering, 60:40 rear seat split, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, rear defogger, hill hold assist, electronic stability program, halogen projector headlamps, and steel wheels with wheel covers.

Additionally, the compact crossover comes with a 7.0-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, voice assistant features, a 6-speaker sound system, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, a wireless charger, rear AC vents, Suzuki connected car features, a rear-view camera, fast USB charging ports, a Head-Up display, 360-degree camera, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Engine-Gearbox Options

The Maruti Fronx comes with a choice of two engine options: a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol unit. The 1.0L engine makes 100bhp with 147.6Nm of torque, while the 1.2L engine produces 90bhp with 113Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, while the 6-speed torque converter automatic and 5-speed AMT gearboxes are optional offerings with the turbo-petrol and NA petrol variants, respectively.
