Google Pixel 8 Series Rumoured to Come with Multi-camera Super Res Zoom Feature for Enhanced Night Sight Photos

-

The upcoming Google Pixel 8 series is set to debut in May during the company’s annual I/O 2023 event. One of the most anticipated features of the new smartphone series is a complete camera overhaul, with rumours suggesting that the Pixel 8 Pro will come with a new feature that will blend multiple cameras to create more detailed Night Sight photos.

The rumoured feature was first discovered in the latest version of Google’s camera app for Pixel smartphones, the Google Camera 8.8 app. According to reports, the app includes references to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, as well as a new feature called “Multi-camera Super Res Zoom” that could enhance Night Sight photos by blending multiple camera shots.

The new feature is expected to work by capturing shots with both the main camera sensor and telephoto sensor over an extended period. The Google Camera app will then merge the shots into a single Night Sight photo with more details. The Pixel 7 Pro also offered a similar functionality last year, taking photos with both the main and telephoto cameras and enhancing the centre portion of the photos with details that would not normally be visible.

While Google has not yet confirmed the development of the Pixel 8 series, the inclusion of the Multi-camera Super Res Zoom feature in the latest Google Camera app for Pixel smartphones adds more credibility to the rumour.

The Pixel 8 series is expected to be powered by a new Tensor chip based on Samsung’s Exynos 2300 SoC, with the Pixel 8 Pro featuring a flat 6.52-inch display and a centre-aligned hole punch cutout for the selfie camera. The Pixel 8 Pro is also expected to measure 162.6 × 76.5 × 8.7mm.

Google’s I/O 2023 event on May 10 is expected to be the platform for the company to tease the Pixel 8 series. The event will also provide an opportunity for Google to showcase its latest advancements in software and hardware technology.

Google’s Pixel series has been known for its outstanding camera performance, and the addition of the Multi-camera Super Res Zoom feature is expected to take the camera performance to new heights. With the ability to merge shots from multiple cameras, the Pixel 8 Pro will be able to capture more details, especially in low light conditions.

The Pixel 8 series is also expected to come with other new features and improvements, including faster performance, longer battery life, and enhanced security features. The Tensor chip, which is expected to power the new handsets, is designed to provide better AI performance, making the Pixel 8 series smarter and more intuitive.
