Western Railway (WR) has launched a new mobile application, Yatra, for commuters on its suburban network. The app will enable passengers to check the real-time location of trains between Churchgate station in south Mumbai and Dahanu in Palghar district. The app has been developed in collaboration with a private firm and has several features, including real-time train tracking, station maps, and travel information.

Tracking of Trains:
The Western Railway has installed GPS tracking devices in all its suburban trains, which will enable the app to provide accurate information about train movements. Commuters can use the app to find the nearest stations on the map and track their preferred train. The app also provides authentic information regarding train live updates, announcements, the latest timetable, maps of major railway stations, and their amenities.
Apart from train-related information, the Yatra app also provides information about Mumbai Metro services and buses. It has a section where users can give their feedback, and they can also access important railway and medical emergency contact numbers. Travelers can use the app to explore nearby tourist destinations and places to visit near stations.
The Western Railway has ensured that the app is user-friendly, including for people with disabilities. Divyang commuters (persons with disabilities) who operate the mobile phone via voice commands can easily find their train’s live location with the help of Google Assistant.
The Yatra app is the latest addition to the Indian Railways’ digital initiatives aimed at improving passenger convenience and experience. The Central Railway had launched live tracking of its suburban trains through the app last year.
